Smartville is Creating Energy Storage Solutions from Repurposed Electric Vehicle Batteries

Energy Storage Solutions from Repurposed Electric Vehicle Batteries.

Batteries today are expensive and there are not enough of them. However, there’s a huge supply of batteries coming down the pipeline in the form of electric vehicles. And when those electric vehicles are being retired or for different reasons are being taken off the road, there’s a huge resource of these electric vehicle batteries that we can repurpose and put to use on the grid.” – Mike Ferry – President and Co-Founder, Smartville.

Next up in our exploration of grid-scale storage solutions is Smartville, who’s mission is to build the world’s most sustainable and scalable electric vehicle battery repurposing platform, and empower stationary energy storage on a global scale, one battery pack, one kilowatt hour, at a time.

Smartville has innovated a way to take second-life batteries from electric vehicles and apply them to energy storage systems used by electric grids such as the California Independent System Operator. The company’s product takes batteries from vehicles that are no longer on the road, integrates them into a single system and uses the re-purposed batteries at energy storage facilities.
